API STD 618, 1986 Edition, February 1986 – Reciprocating Compressors for General Refinery Services

This standard covers the minimum requirements for reciprocating compressors and their drivers used in refinery services for handling process air or gas with either lubricated or nonlubricated cylinders. Compressors covers by this standard are modarate to low speed and in critical services. Also included are related lubricating systems, controls, instrumentation, intercoolers, aftercooler, pulsation suppression devices, and other auxiliary equipment. Excluded are integral gas-engine-driven compressors, packaged high-speed separable engine-driven reciprocating gas compressors, compressors with single-acting trunk-type (automotive-type) pistons that also serve as crossheads, and either utility or instrument air compressors that discharge at 125 pounds per square inch gage (8.6 bar efective) or below. Also exclude are gas engine and steam engine drivers.
